Gum Recession is Exposing Veneers<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Gum recession can occur for many reasons, some of which include gum disease, aggressive brushing, or teeth grinding (bruxism).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When this happens, and a person is wearing veneers, the movement of the gumline causes the perimeter of the veneer to be visible. It is no longer touching the gumline, so others will be able to easily tell if an individual\u2019s teeth are real or artificial.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To remedy this issue, it is essential that the patient receive newer, longer veneers to accommodate the additional space.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Decay is Forming Underneath the Veneers<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Many people assume that once veneers are in place, natural teeth are protected against tooth decay. This is false and can be a dangerous mindset.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Only the surfaces of teeth are concealed and shielded from bacteria but not the backsides. This makes it possible for dental decay and cavities to form over time if the person is not practicing good oral hygiene.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Should a cavity form or decay spread, it will require that the veneer(s) be removed so that appropriate treatment can be applied to the affected tooth or teeth. Otherwise, the veneer(s) may begin to separate from the teeth they are covering.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chips or Cracks Are Visible in Veneers<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Veneers are durable restorations, but they can develop chips and cracks over time because of normal wear and tear. Not to mention, there is the possibility of facial trauma should proper protection be neglected.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If a chip or crack is visible, the dentist will need to replace the veneer before it worsens. Apart from the unsightly appearance it can cause, damaged veneers can also impact a person\u2019s ability to talk and chew like normal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The lifespan of veneers may be 10-15 years, but patients can expect a longer-lasting smile if proper preventive steps are practiced. Either way, replacements are necessary, and knowing what to look for can make the removal and placement of new ones much easier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
