Gum disease can manifest itself via many different symptoms, with one of the most common being gum recession. As the gums pull away from the teeth, the roots become exposed, leading to a heightened risk of sensitivity, infection, and damage. Using a unique form of gum disease therapy in Sycamore known as the Chao Pinhole® Surgical Technique, our team can eliminate the need for complex and drastic treatment that requires a prolonged recovery time and instead, gently reposition the existing gum tissue for a healthier smile. The Chao Pinhole® Surgical Technique does not rely on scalpels and sutures to graft tissue onto the gums. It is a less invasive way to address gum recession.
A dentist in Sycamore moves a small needle through the gum tissue (thus creating a “pinhole”), which is stretched just enough to loosen the tissue. Our periodontist then shifts the tissue to cover more of the exposed tooth root.
There are no sutures required, which makes recovery as easy as possible.
The primary reason for a periodontist to recommend the Chao Pinhole® Surgical Technique is to address a patient’s gum recession.
This pulling back of the gum tissue commonly occurs as a result of aggressive tooth brushing, smoking, missteps in oral hygiene, gum disease, teeth grinding, genetics, or hormonal changes.
With the Chao Pinhole® Surgical Technique, we can treat multiple areas of gum recession in a single appointment. This is in contrast to traditional gum grafting, which can often take multiple visits and requires a longer recovery time.
The Chao Pinhole® Surgical Technique offers unique benefits that cannot be achieved with other periodontal therapy solutions. Instead of relying on scalpels, sutures, or other invasive instruments, the process is completed using a small needle and other specialized tools.
